The Konawaena Foundation was established in the Fall of 2000 to help support higher education at Konawaena High School. As a Foundation organized for charitable purposes under Internal Revenue Service Code Section 501(c)(3), all funds raised from donations by alumni, and alumni classes are fully tax deductible (please consult a tax advisor), as are the donation portions of funds raised from our annual Konawaena Foundation Golf Tournament. We, in turn, provide funds in support of expanding and enhancing programs at KHS, primarily by requests from teachers and staff.
All funding requests are carefully reviewed and voted on by the Board of Directors to ensure the best possible use of funds, with mandatory follow-up for program compliance.
In 2006, our charter was expanded to allow us to provide scholarships to exemplary students seeking to further their education at the college and university levels. Available scholarships are the Col. Ellison S. Onizuka Memorial Scholarship, the Sandra E. Taosaka Teacher Scholarship, the Konawaena Foundation Fine Arts Scholarship, the Konawaena Foundation English Scholarship, the Vinny Chang Memorial Scholarship, and the Caron Ikeda Memorial Scholarship. We also provide tuition assistance scholarships for KHS graduates who attend UH-Palamanui (Kona) through the University of Hawai'i Foundation.
It is our goal to do all that a professionally run organization can do to foster an environment for higher education at Konawaena High School. We welcome the involvement of our alumni, parents, business, and community partners to help us reach our goals.
Mahalo for your support !
